Last week, I discussed the process of titling my work. I ended up dissing my own titles, which prompted several of you to respond to me saying that my titles are their favorite part about my work. That reminded me of the best part about my titles…the time Kevin Corrigan performed a reading of them in front of my work!
While I don’t remember how this was initially set up, I do remember I imagined it would simply be a conversation between us. When he asked my permission to instead create a poem out of my titles and read his original piece at the event, it became one of the most exciting moments of my life.
Please take four minutes to listen to Kevin’s reading of the poem he made out of stung-together titles of my work, recorded at Susan Inglett Gallery in NYC, January 13, 2018:
________________________________________________________________ The transcript/poem from Kevin Corrigan's reading of my titles, strung together: "As ye the sinister creep and feign, Those once held become those now slain Everything that stands will be at odds with its neighbor, And everything that falls will perish without grace We are not OK We can not live like this, anymore Conflict and worship, The latch won’t unbind Sweet companions remain ignored And now it is known A nether sky Standing below this eternal covenant Fading away with sleep As darkness falls on this Heartless land My brother holds right My feeble hand Their fear blurred And they were still Oh, how the heartless Haunt us all The Impasse As my heart quiets And my body dies Take me gently through your troubled sky The contents of the Beast The silence Masses, Masses Rove a darkened pool Never is there laughter on this ship of fools Being together No matter how rich our blood This massive Earth rises above And provides us no wings These final hours embrace at last This is our ending, this is our past This is a descending world Staring into the blankness, They fell in order to begin A death, a fall, a march. Toward a better world." _______________________________________________________________

Not only has Kevin been my favorite actor since I first saw him in 1996’s Walking and Talking, he’s also my favorite VOICE. It’s as singular as he is himself. So you can imagine how otherworldly his reading felt to me that evening.
So maybe I do like my own titles again? If only for the fact that they were instrumental in making me so happy that evening.
Finally, I didn’t know it at the time, but Kevin, taking after his own mother, is also a massively talented visual artist. I highly recommend following him on Instagram to keep up with his drawings and paintings, along with everything else he does.
And Kevin, if you happen to see this, thank you. Your support and interest in my work has meant the world to me throughout the years.
Special thanks to Susan Inglett for making the show and the event happen! Let’s do it again someday.
